TO: Those Considering Participating in a Mission Trip to Peru
FROM: NC Conference Peru Covenant Committee

CONGRATULATIONS! You’re thinking about going on a mission trip to Peru, perhaps for the first time. You may be feeling excited, or nervous, or inspired. In any case, you’re considering what could become a life changing experience. A mission trip is an opportunity to experience the breadth, depth and height of the God who calls us to go into the world as his disciples. You will broaden your understanding of a people and culture very different from yours. You will likely be overwhelmed by the living presence of Christ in the places where you will be involved.

WE ARE GRATEFUL for your willingness to consider a mission trip and we understand that your participation would require a significant commitment of time, effort and resources. If financial assistance would improve your ability to make the trip, we encourage you to apply for a Mission Trip Scholarship. These scholarships are a tangible reflection of the goals of the Peru Covenant. They are intended to empower people to experience and contribute to the mission of the whole church, build cross-cultural relationships, and foster deeper understanding of how the gospel is lived out in faith communities, both here and around the world. By providing scholarships, the Peru Covenant hopes to increase individual participation in mission. We pray that those who participate will return with a continuing sense of mission that may transform them, their congregations and, possibly, their wider communities.

PLEASE CONSIDER the following issues, as you plan this step in your “faith journey”..

How does this mission trip reflect your personal goals and values and those of your congregation and the Peru Covenant? Is your local congregation aware of your interest in participating in this mission trip? Do they support you in this ministry?

Does the mission trip further connections between your congregation and the Peru Methodist Church to which you will be traveling?

Will the team of which you will be a part gather to prepare together prior to the mission trip, getting to know one another, spending time in Bible study, planning health precautions, and exploring the cultural context and implications of your destination?

In what ways do you think this is a well-planned mission trip which will result in deeper relationships, better understanding, and tangible results?

A primary goal of the Scholarship program is to motivate and enable more personal participation in mission.

How will you integrate the mission team’s experience into the life of your own church? How do you anticipate engaging the congregation in the relationships you will be forming? There is an expectation that those who receive scholarship funds will share their mission trip experiences with their congregations and/or the Peru Covenant Committee.

INSTRUCTIONS: After completing this Application, please secure your pastor’s signature of support at the bottom of the page. The Application, with attachments, should then be sent to the: Peru Covenant Committee, PO Box 76, Henrico, NC  27842. Please allow about four (4) weeks for us to review your application, resolve any questions and have your scholarship check processed.

We look forward to receiving your application and will make every attempt to find financial support for your mission trip. Thank you for your prayerful commitment to the Peru Covenant.
